Happy Birthday Grandpa Daniel!!!

Happy Birthday Grandpa Daniel!  Today Daniel proved that flowers don’t only bring smiles to women.  Thanks to a local retirement home we were invited to spend some time today celebrating Grandpa Daniel’s birthday.  The celebration began with a surprise flower arrangement, a glorious rendition of “Happy Birthday” sung by fellow retirees, and a delicious fruit smoothie.  Then Daniel told us of his youth spent in Southern California as a genuine bodysurfing beach bum, his move to Utah with his wife to begin their future family of five (two girls and three boys), and about his employment as a computer programmer for The U.S. government, WordPerfect, and Novell among others.
To top off the celebration, home employees and fellow retirees shared things they enjoyed about Daniel, coming to a common consensus that he is always kind, extremely smart, and a great partner to talk to.

Today Daniel celebrated his birthday with a smile!  Please share this with your friends to help us keep bringing smiles to more of our favorite Grannies, and occasional Grandpas

Keep Smiling Granny Annie!!!

Granny Annie is the most gracious gal we've met!  When we arrived, she could not stop smiling and staring at her flowers.  She just kept saying “Thank you!  Thank you!”  Today we delivered flowers to Annie not necessarily because she needed the extra boost, but rather because she deserved an extra reward.  According to the all in the retirement home, Annie is the life of the home.  She is known to smile and sing all day long, and she never runs out of new songs.
Before Annie entered the home, she suffered the loss of two of her four children as well as her husband.  But despite all of this, she continues to smile and lift those around her.
We kept Granny Annie smiling today.! Please share this with your friends to help us keep bringing smiles to more of our favorite Grannies.

Granny Zola!!!

Granny Zola epitomizes the goal of our Just Because Granny Deliveries: bringing smiles to the elderly.  When we met Zola, she was sitting alone in her bedroom away from the others out in the living room.  She told us that she seldom leaves her room due to her struggles with Bipolar Disorder, Arthritis and hearing loss, among other things.

When Granny Zola was young, she was a very active lady, enjoying golf, swimming, and anything in the outdoors.  But unfortunately, it is now difficult for her to enjoy anything.  Today however, she enjoyed our visit, especially the flowers.  She thanked us with a smile and a very delicate handshake.

As we left, the homeowner expressed his gratitude, saying that Zola had spoken more with us today than she has with anyone for months.

Granny Zola smiled today!  Please share this with your friends to help us continue to bring smiles to as many of our favorite Grannies as we can!

Granny Barbara!!!

Granny Barbara is one of the happiest gals we’ve met so far.  She is so complimentary; she complimented everything from the flowers to my shirt.
She is the 86 year old granddaughter of an early handcart pioneer and is happy to still be a fully active member of the LDS church.  She has one son and three daughters, one of which lives all the way in Fiji.  Before entering a rest home, she enjoyed her work as a dietician.  She has now been in the home for about 3 ½ years, and she loves the family, the food, and the home’s parrot—as long as she doesn’t get too close.  Today, she is excited that her family will get to see pictures of her with her flowers and one of her favorite visitors—the owner’s daughter.

Granny Barbara smiled today!  Please suggest this to your friends on Facebook to help us bring smiles to as many of our favorite Grannies as we can!
